How do I make a clock run 50% faster?

I need a modified clock for a stage show so that I can convince the audience that 90 minutes has passed when it’s only been an hour. I’ve spoken to a lot of antique clock dealers about how to do it with an old-fashioned pendulum clock, but it will probably end up very expensive and not entirely reliable.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I can do this with an electric clock? Is there some kind of mechanism that can replace the electrics of the clock to achieve what I want? Any help out there would be massively appreciated!

piets answer above is absolutely spot on. Please ignore anyone who suggests you increase the voltage on the clock, not only will it not make the clock run a single second faster, it could be very dangerous, ESPECIALLY if using mains voltage. Again, overvolting the clock will not make it faster any more than overwinding a mechanical clock.

If you can buy a cheap pendulum clock, then it should not be difficult to shorten the pendulum. The pendulum will be adjustable by a screw at the bob end, and will slide off the arm if the screw is removed, or you could slide it up and tape it in place.

Before you do this, count the swings in a minute. Then move the pendulum up and count again. when you have 50% more swings per minute, you are good to go. You can then fix the pendulum with epoxy or something similar.

Even if the pendulum will not slide, you can cut off the bob and fix another item as a weight. the weight is not critical, so long as it is reasonably similar it will be fine.
