Where can you find rustic/antique/recycled salvage materials for an artist in Lexington KY or nearby?

Hello all!

I’m an artist here in Lexington looking for some rustic/antique/recycled salvage in the Scott/Fayette Co. areas, or nearby. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure they say! I’m mainly looking for items to be given away for free (things that you might throw away or take to a salvage yard, etc anyway), but there are some things that I would be willing to pay a little bit for. Just keep in mind that I’m a starving artist! I would also be willing to travel a bit for the promise of some good items. Anything from buckets of old rusty nails to dirty old dolls, barn clapboards and driftwood, architectural salvage or antique fabric is on my list. I need as much as I can get my hands on! Thank you!

If you have any huge First Monday type sales, like those at Canton Texas, if you can stand to tromp around the acreage you will probably find interesting stuff and if you pay attention to the bulkier stuff instead of the collectables, the prices don’t have to be bad. A backpack or a cart is necessary, I think.
In the same area of the state are warehouse style “Antique” and “Decorative” collections of various stuff ranging from a MIG fighter to iron Texas Stars in various sizes and lots of stuff in between. Some parts of the SE have organized and large “Yard” sales along the highways about once a month.
Look into Freecycle which is local and has some amazing stuff to give away, I got some large pieces of mirror (with an outlet hole cut in it.) that I had to cut up on a sheet on their driveway just to handle it and get in my vehicle.
Otherwise, salvage yards, as you say.
